Efants De Le Revolution Boheme

We were the glory seekers, the fading stars
desperately trying to inspire.
We were the ones shouting "Vivant la vie boheme!
Vie aux révolution!"and raising our glasses to decadence.
It was us who attended old Mass three times weekly,
for the beauty of the language, and worshipped at brothels each night.

We were the silhouettes on table tops and roof tops,
singing odes to humanity in our crude vernacular.
We were the neo-linguists, the neo-classicals,
obsessed with the avant garde while our lives decayed.
Ours were the high and noble minds which kept us, penniless,
in bare apartments while the bourgoise sank into wealth.

We were the ones who spoke of love, wrote those endless songs,
and reveled in our freedom.
Ours were the enlightened booksthat fell flat in the over-stocked markets
while our contemporaries' soared to fame.
Ours were the voices, raised
on limelit stages, in darkened coffee shops, on lamp-lit corners
filling the empty nights.
